Michael Cox is a composer, conductor, pianist, and educator. With a concentrate on choral music and church music, Dr. Cox has had a following as a composer for years. In 2009 he retired as Professor of Music Idea and Composition on the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s College of Church Music. Previous to becoming a member of the school at Southwestern within the fall of 1990, Dr. Cox taught conducting, composition, and music concept at Oklahoma Baptist College in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
As a composer, Dr. Michael Cox has greater than 160 printed works and has obtained the Customary Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) yearly since 1987. He receives quite a few commissions and requests for his choral and instrumental music, and was just lately honored because the commissioned composer for the Texas Music Lecturers Affiliation Convention in Might of 1995. Along with his work as a composer, he has an in depth background in choral and orchestral conducting. He served as director of the Bison Glee Membership at Oklahoma Baptist College for 13 years, and was the conductor for the annual Concerto Aria competitors that includes OBU college students performing with members of the Oklahoma Metropolis Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Cox has traveled extensively conducting choral clinics accross the nation.
Since transferring to Fort Price, Dr. Cox has been visitor conductor for the Fort Price Civic Orchestra and the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving. He additionally served because the director of the Southwestern Seminary Males’s Refrain.
Dr. Cox obtained a Bachelor of Music diploma with honors in piano efficiency from Oklahoma Baptist College, the Grasp of Music in orchestral conducting from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and the Physician of Music in composition from Florida State College in Tallahassee.
