Why did the disciples name Matthias in any respect? On the one hand, Jesus was already ascended — what want was there to revive the considerably arbitrary variety of twelve apostles? On the opposite, if this was so essential, why not ask Jesus to pick the latest apostle whereas he was nonetheless right here, simply as he selected all of Matthias’s predecessors?
