Is Something Too Laborious for the Lord?

That easy query seems in Genesis 18:14, spoken by God Himself:

“Is something too exhausting for the Lord?”

It was requested in a really human second—one full of doubt, laughter, and impossibility.

The Context: A Snicker Born of Expertise

Abraham is almost 100 years previous. Sarah is gone childbearing years. God has promised them a son, however the promise feels unrealistic, even unreasonable. When Sarah overhears the promise, she laughs—not out of mockery, however out of lengthy disappointment. Years of ready have taught her to handle expectations.

God hears the laughter and responds with a query, not a rebuke:

Is something too exhausting for the Lord?

It’s a mild confrontation of human logic with divine energy.

A Query That Exposes Our Limits

This query just isn’t meant to tell God—it’s meant to disclose us.

All of us have issues we quietly classify as too exhausting:

  • A damaged relationship that feels past restore
  • A behavior or sin that retains resurfacing
  • A calling that appears unrealistic at our age or stage of life
  • A prayer we as soon as believed for, however now not count on

We should still consider God can do miracles, however we subtly cease believing He’ll—at the very least in our state of affairs.

Sarah believed in God. What she struggled with was believing that God’s promise nonetheless utilized to her.

God’s Energy Is Not Restricted by Time or Biology

What makes this story outstanding isn’t just the miracle, however when it occurs.

God doesn’t give Abraham and Sarah a baby of their prime. He waits till there isn’t any pure clarification left. Why? As a result of God typically removes each human fallback in order that His faithfulness stands alone.

The beginning of Isaac was not only a blessing—it was a sworn statement. Each time Sarah held that little one, she held the reply to God’s query.

The Query Nonetheless Stands

Scripture doesn’t say God answered His personal query. He merely requested it—after which fulfilled His phrase.

That very same query echoes by way of the remainder of the Bible:

  • The Purple Sea
  • The autumn of Jericho
  • The virgin beginning
  • The resurrection

And it echoes into our lives at present.

Is something too exhausting for the Lord?

  • Not forgiveness
  • Not restoration
  • Not transformation
  • Not ending effectively

Religion Learns to Snicker Once more

Curiously, Sarah laughs twice on this story. The primary time, she laughs in disbelief. The second time, after Isaac is born, she laughs with pleasure:

“God has introduced me laughter, and everybody who hears about this may snort with me.” (Genesis 21:6)

God didn’t disgrace her for her doubt. He patiently turned her laughter of skepticism into laughter of testimony.

A Query Value Sitting With

This passage invitations us to pause and mirror:

  • The place have I quietly determined one thing is “too exhausting”?
  • What promise have I finished anticipating?
  • What would obedience appear like if I really believed this query?

God just isn’t restricted by our age, our previous, or our understanding. He’s trustworthy to His phrase—and His timing is all the time purposeful.

So at present, let the query do its work.

Is something too exhausting for the Lord?
