Residing in Love: The Secret to a Rising, Assured Religion

1 John 4:16–17

“We all know how a lot God loves us, and now we have put our belief in His love.
God is love, and all who reside in love reside in God, and God lives in them.
And as we reside in God, our love grows extra good.”

Some verses are so easy that we danger passing proper over them. However simplicity is usually Scripture’s best energy. John isn’t attempting to impress us with theological complexity—he’s exhibiting us the middle of the Christian life in a single tight paragraph: God loves us. We belief that love. And the extra we reside in it, the extra it transforms us.

Let’s decelerate and let these phrases sink in.

1. “We all know how a lot God loves us…” — That is our basis

John doesn’t say, We guess… we hope… perhaps God loves us. He says we all know.

How do we all know?

  • We all know as a result of Jesus got here.
  • We all know as a result of the cross will not be a concept however a historic occasion.
  • We all know as a result of the Spirit continues to whisper God’s love into the deepest components of our hearts.

Each day you and I reside out of one thing—worry, ambition, insecurity, comparability. John says: Reside out of the data that God loves you. It’s the most stabilizing fact you’ll ever construct your life on.

2. “…and now we have put our belief in His love.” — Love isn’t simply believed, it’s relied on

There’s a distinction between understanding a fact and leaning your weight on it.

John invitations us to belief God’s love—to let it carry our guilt, calm our nervousness, heal our wounds, and reorient our motives. Trusting His love means:

  • I don’t must impress God—He already accepts me in Christ.
  • I don’t must worry the long run—His love goes forward of me.
  • I don’t must carry out for folks—His love defines me.

Non secular maturity will not be about accumulating extra data; it’s about studying to relaxation within the love we already know.

3. “God is love…” — Love isn’t a trait of God, it’s His nature

John doesn’t say God has love or God exhibits love.
He says God is love.

The whole lot God does flows out of who He’s:

  • His instructions are loving.
  • His correction is loving.
  • His timing is loving.
  • His plans are loving.
  • His self-discipline is loving.

In the event you may see your life from God’s perspective, you wouldn’t change a single factor He has allowed or formed—as a result of it’s all soaked in good love.

4. “All who reside in love reside in God…” — Love is the proof of His presence

John teaches one thing profound and sensible: if you wish to measure your religious maturity, measure your love.

Not your platform.
Not your Bible data.
Not your achievements.
Not your years within the religion.

Love is the proof that God lives in us and we reside in Him.

And that love exhibits up in real-world locations:

  • How we deal with individuals who can’t provide us something again
  • How shortly we forgive
  • How gently we communicate
  • How prepared we’re to hear
  • How affected person we’re with troublesome folks
  • How a lot compassion we present in unnoticed moments

To “reside in love” is to let God’s character form {our relationships}.

5. “As we reside in God, our love grows extra good.” — Love matures with time and obedience

That is excellent news: none of us begin off completely loving, however all of us can develop.

John paints an image of religious growth:

  • As we stroll with God, our reactions change.
  • As we abide in Him, our motives deepen.
  • As we spend time in His presence, we discover ourselves turning into extra like Him.

Love grows as we keep shut.
Love matures as we preserve obeying.
Love expands as we proceed trusting.

Your imperfect love doesn’t disqualify you—God is shaping it into one thing extra like His.

A Ultimate Phrase

On the finish of your life, the truest factor about you’ll not be your accomplishments, your ministry résumé, or your affect.

It is going to be this: Did you study to reside in God’s love, and did His love move by means of you to others?

John makes it easy:

  1. God loves you.
  2. Belief that love.
  3. Reside in it day-after-day.
  4. Let it change how you’re keen on others.
  5. Let your love develop robust, deep, and delightful as you abide in Him.

That is the Christian life in its purest kind.

Let’s stroll in God’s love right now and grow to be extra like Him.
