What various hindrances we meet
In coming to a mercy seat;
But who that is aware of the price of prayer
However wantes to be often there?
Prayer makes the darkishened cloud withdraw;
Prayer climbs the ladder Jacob noticed,
Offers exercise to religion and love,
Brings every blessing from above.
Restraining prayer, we stop to battle;
Prayer makes the Christian’s armor vibrant,
And Satan trembles when he sees
The weakest saint upon his knees.
Whereas Moses stood with arms unfold large,
Success was discovered on Israel’s aspect;
However when by way of weariness they failed,
That moment Amalek prevailed.
Have you ever no phrases? Ah, suppose once more;
Phrases stream apace once you complain
And fill your fellow creature’s ear
With the unhappy story of all of your care.
Have been half the breath thus uselessly spent
To heav’n in supplication despatched,
Your cheerful tune would oftener be
“Hear what the Lord has executed for me!”
Take heed to the message “The Soldier’s Weapons”
