I used to be a long time outdated
Earlier than I noticed
The presence
Of the absence
Of girls’s narratives,
Ladies’s tales,
Ladies’s voices
Within the Lectionary,
In common, weekly Christian worship.
I used to be a long time outdated
Earlier than I actually paid consideration
To how few sermons
I had heard
Centered in Biblical girls.
I used to be a long time outdated
Earlier than I noticed
How few Biblical girls’s tales
Offered the voices
For my very own preaching.
After which I took a category
From the late
Rev. Dr. Susan Hedahl
On the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg.
And we learn the Biblical girls –
Their narratives,
Their tales,
Their phrases.
All of them.
We heard
WomenSpeak.
We tried to listen to them
On their very own advantage,
In their very own time,
And in ours.
And I began to listen to
Their phrases,
Their voices,
The sounds of their speech
And the intonations of their tales –
Rising from the graves
During which they’re buried,
Talking side-by-side,
Bouncing off of each other,
Sparking –
Like flint-striking-flint
In the dead of night.
I’ve been listening to them ever since,
Talking to me,
Inviting me personal story
To seek out its voice
Facet-by-side
With theirs.
Alone.
Collectively.
Within the un-mutable refrain
Of WomenSpeak.
That is what I hear.
That is the narrative
Into which
My very own story
Is written.
